Know what each part protects
Third-party liability cover addresses legal liability to others, subject to the policy and law. Own-damage cover relates to insured damage to your vehicle, subject to deductibles, exclusions, and policy conditions.
Check the IDV and deductibles
Insured Declared Value (IDV) is the value stated for the vehicle for insurance purposes. Review it carefully at renewal.
A deductible is the amount you may bear in an eligible own-damage claim. Voluntary deductibles can reduce premium but increase your out-of-pocket cost.
NCB and add-ons need context
No Claim Bonus is normally linked to not making an own-damage claim and may be affected by a claim or lapse, subject to the policy and applicable rules.
Add-ons such as roadside assistance, zero depreciation, or engine protection have separate conditions. Choose them for a clear need, not just because they sound comprehensive.
Renewal and transfer checklist
Renew before expiry and make sure the registration and insurance records are accurate. A vehicle sale requires insurance transfer steps.
- Check the IDV and deductible.
- Confirm the insurer’s cashless garage network if it matters to you.
- Keep the policy, registration, licence, and emergency contacts handy.
